Matthew

While Matthew’s boss was absent, his colleagues took advantage.

A new presentation for Monday? Matthew would craft it over the weekend.

A difficult negotiation? Matthew could handle that.

A complicated formula in a spreadsheet? Just give it to Matthew.

When he returned, his boss summoned him.

“Matthew, your colleagues tell me they have qualms about your negotiating skills. They’ve also complained about botched formulas and sloppy presentations.”

Matthew was lost for words.

“You’ll just have to put your nose to the grindstone.”

“Dust off the cobwebs and show us what you’re capable of.”

Matthew’s revenge was swift and totally unexpected.

Friday Fictioneers is a long-standing, popular weekly Flash Fiction challenge, hosted by the talented author Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.

Friday Fictioneers has been instrumental in honing my writing skills over the past year and I’m very grateful to her, for the pleasure of reading the other participants stories and for their comments on my own attempts.

Thankyou Shaktiki Sharma for this week’s thought-provoking photo prompt.

  1. I bet he lets himself be transferred to another department. I’ve known people who did so much and were ever undervalued. After they retired, three people did the work they did alone. Fun twist. Good story.
